Snow Day January 2010

Early Friday morning an ice/snow storm hit here in Arkansas. It's always a unique perspective of how people react here when they their is rumor of a winter storm..... Utah has snow for months at a time people would not even think of anything being canceled. Granted here there is typically much more ice than snow....hence the Mr. Potato Head snowmen vs a Frosty the snowman. In addition, the tires for most cars around here are not winter tires. So, I definitely thinks it's better that everyone panics, stocks up, and stays home. Plus, I really needed a 3 day weekend. Who wants to lecture on a Friday? I have not had a full week of lecture yet. This upcoming week I am giving an exam. So, I have definitely lucked out recently!

Scottie Pippen @ UCA

We had the opportunity of attending the UCA basketball game when they retired Scottie Pippen's jersey number on January 20th. We always enjoy going to the games, but it added something to have a great basketball player in the gym. They invited the team he played with at UCa as well along with his former coach. The coach was funny as he reflected back on Pippen’s beginnings. Initially, he did not even get a scholarship he was the water boy….every day Pippen would ask, “coach have a scholarship for me.” The coach would smile and say no. After several injuries Scottie Pippen got his break and became the player we know him as today. Not only do I love watching & supporting UCA sports but I love the community spirit on the occasions when everyone comes out to support their own. Just another reason that I love church as well….because we support one another and cheering each other on for that end Goal.

No offense intended....

Jeron is at such a cute age. His language is developing rapidly, but he might 'miss a particular sound when he says a word. The "sh" sound is one that he typically pronounces as "ss". This mistake/learning process usually brings us at least one smile a day. Why you ask? We typically call Ashlin "Ash". Well, of course Jeron follows suit. So, when Ash arrives home from school Jeron typically greets her with "I love you, Ass or I missed you Ass!" I know it shows my immaturity but I can't help but hide a giggle.

Another semester begins

These pictures are from our trip to Texas before Christmas. I forgot my camera, but may aunt through and had a couple.
We are into the groove of a new semester. Shawn has his 3 classes, his research lab, and sponsoring the Psychology honor society. I have 1 class this semester. It is a senior level class. Most of the students have taken at least 1 class. It's fun I can make fun of him and they get a kick out of it. So far, it seems like I have a good group of students. I am keeping my eyes open for a job. It is slightly difficult because I am teaching a class that they would have to be willing to work around. We are really hoping something will open up at UCA.
Ashlin continues to excel at Kindergarten. She is starting to become a big girl and want to sleep in. So, she really looks forward to Saturdays.
Jaxon was so excited to go back to preschool last week. He has always been my child that loves to sleep in. On school mornings, he bounces out of bed and will say I am not tired anymore. It is so cute. He is beginning to write letters and they look great.
Jeron is our family clown. He just loves life. The problem he loves life in a diaper. Finding the time to invest in toilet training is going to be a challenge. Wish us luck.
In 2 weeks Shawn's mom is flying out. We are very excited. It has been a very long time since we have seen her. The kids have begun the countdown!

Time for Toilet Training I think....

So, I was changing Jeron's diaper today. As I politely held my breath I told him, "You need to go poop on the toilet!" He looks up at me with his blue eyes very sweetly and replies, "It doesn't make sense!" I thought to myself what a great sentence if you can talk that grown up it's definitely time you start using the toilet! If only I had a week with no interruptions, no worries, no to do lists...... it sure would make the process go by easier!

Ashlin's Baby Penguin

Ashlin has learned about penguins this entire week. Their assignment for Friday was to decorate a baby penguin (i.e., a hard boiled egg) and make it a home. They will take care of it all day tomorrow. They also have to dress in black and white to the be the mom/dad penguin. Ashlin is very excited and enjoyed preparing for the day.

UCA resumed today. Shawn had a full day of classes and tomorrow I teach. Classes were cut so I only have 1 this semester.....Behavior Modification. I have 4 of my former Gen Psych students. Most of the students will have had Shawn so it will be fun to joke around about his class.

I applied for a counselor position at UCA over break. I interviewed on Monday. It went very well.......BUT today I found out I did not get the position. I was quite disappointed. I was sad to think of not being home with the boys but we sure could have used the money. Isn't everyone saying that these days. We put our trust that this is how it should be for now!
