Wednesday was the last day of class for spring semester. Today is considered study day. I got this email this morning.
"Mrs Charlton I apologize that I could not make it to class this morning, I am having car trouble but will do my best not to miss any more classes."

Mr. Charmer
Jaxon asked his primary teacher, "if she had got married yet?"(she missed last Sunday). She told him "that she hadn't gotten married yet". He then told her "that when he gets to be her age he will marry her!" When I found out I askd him If He is going to marry his teacher? He told me yes. Five minutes later he told us, "I am going to marry Sister Erin Evans. We are going to have a baby?" Shawn askedm "what are you going to name the baby?" Jaxon replied, "Mr. Fluffy Pants". What a little charmer!!

Priceless Parenting Moments
Ashlin wrote the following letter for me at school today. This makes all the exhaustion of being a parent worth it.
Dearest Mom,
I love you. You're nice. I love your clothes because they are pretty. You know what? I like you more than anyone.
Love,
Ashlin

A little fun on facebook...
Shawn: So this should be your status: "HUSBANDS WEEK: If you have a husband who
makes your life interesting and fun, who is your best friend and who hasbeen with you through thick and thin, who has been a blessing in yourlife and who you are proud to be married to copy and paste this to your status"
Veda:I follow in Abe Lincoln's status.....I can't tell a lie. But I am also a modern politician and can be bought!
Shawn: Soda? Chocolate? Shoes? How high is the cost of a Facebook status that acknowledges my wonderfulness? I'll pay it!
Veda: We'll see about that! Trade me for my Psychology of Women summer class and i will take your Learning summer class.
Shawn: Psy of Women would be easy for me to teach..."Women are crazy!" Class over.
Veda: They would offer a Psy of Men class but is is already covered in Sex Ed
Shawn: Touche! And well played. I yield to the master!
Veda: With that yielding, don't forget the Dr. Pepper & Chocolate!
Psi Chi Annual Banquet
Thursday night was the annual Psi Chi Annual banquet. In the past, this solely has been an evening to induct the new Psi Chi members officially into Psi Chi (i.e., Psychology Honor Society). Shawn decided to change tradition and make this a night to not only celebrate new members but to celebrate the department as a whole. With this change, they added an outstanding Alumnus award. The award winner spoke and reflected back on his experiences at UCA and advice for getting involved & graduate school. This year they also added an annual award to be given to an outstanding student in honor of a past beloved faculty member. One of Shawn's research students received the award. Also, instead of putting together a program of the nights events a booklet was put together. This booklet included all of the departments accomplishments he was able to collect (e.g,. undergraduates who have been accepted into graduate schools, grants, publications, conference presentations). Most people think of UCA as a small university but when you look back at the many things accomplished this year you can't help but be impressed. I am definitely honored to be a part of such a great program. Not to make Shawn's head get any better but once again he put together an unbelievable evening that allowed the faculty and the students to feel special and have the knowledge that they are an elite group of individuals.
SWPA
SWPA Outstanding Chapter Award
Last weekend was the South Western Association for the Psychological Association (i.e., SWPA) yearly conference. UCA had 31 students which must have been a record high. They had a wonderful time (some definitely too much fun & paid for it later) and brought much success back to the department. Shawn has been the faculty sponsor for the Psi Chi/Psychology club. He has put much time and effort to shape into an organization that the students will be proud of. This year his hard work was honored (as well as his students). UCA won the Psi Chi regional award for outstanding chapter and a check for $500 dollars. In addition, his students did a great job representing his research lab. He had 7 students who had presentations at the conference (more impressive all but 1 were undergraduate students). There was seen in success with 1 student receiving a Psi Chi Research award and 2 students were finalist for the SWPA research competition. He his an outstanding mentor and it is reflected in their respect and definitely by their accomplishments!

One of my favorite moments of the trip was on our way home. We opened up the letters on the computer that I had wrote to Nana & Papa while they were on the mission (the intent was to keep them for a journal). Wow, I was amazed about how much detail that I gave them. The kids loved to hear their funny stories about themselves as babies! It was nice bonding time and kept the kids occupied on our long drive home. My hope is that I can attempt to once again keeping a better record of our life's events. You forget how quickly the little things can fade away. We are hoping life will slow down a bit, big wish considering the end of the semester is approaching. The last 4 weeks have definitely kept us on our toes. We have had 2 trips to Texas, 3 cases of strep throat, 2 rounds of minor stomach flu, an allergy shot, a visit from my mom, kindergarten testing, organizing & attending the Psi Chi annual banquet, daily life activities, and did I mention allergies! So here is to a little rest and some cute stories from the kids to journal about!
Easter Weekend
We had a wonderful Easter weekend. My mom drove up from Austin on Friday. This was her first visit to Conway. We were excited to have her here. The next day, we had a Ward Easter Egg Hunt & dinner in between sessions of conference. The kids had so much fun. We had a nice Easter morning, filled Easter baskets, and big smiles!
